Vanity Fair style portraits ·

When you want a great portrait but freeze in front of the camera

You have seen those clean, magazine-style portraits and thought you could never look like that. The problem usually isn't your face. It's walking in without a plan, and we fix that before you ever step in front of the lens.

Picture it: someone points a phone at you at a family dinner, and you instantly forget what to do with your hands. You smile too wide, then not enough. Later you see the photo and quietly delete it.

Now imagine booking a real portrait session with that same feeling sitting in your stomach. You are not sure what to wear, whether your hair should be up or down, or what will happen once you arrive.

That uncertainty costs you. People put off portraits for years because of it. The anniversary passes, the kids grow, the dog gets grey around the muzzle, and the photo you meant to have never gets made.

Why the nerves win

Most camera nerves come from not knowing. Walking into a session with no picture of the result leaves you guessing on the spot, and guessing shows on your face.

Andrea started her photography life as a model, so she knows what it is like on your side of the lens. Her camera has been busy for the last 20 years, and her style is simple: less is more. No busy backgrounds or props competing for attention. Just you.

How we take the guesswork out

First, we sit down for a consultation. Together we build a moodboard so you can actually see the look we are going for before the session day.

Second, every detail we discuss is emailed to you. Outfits, hair, makeup, location: it is all written down, so you are not trying to remember it the night before.

Third, we choose where it happens. Sessions can be in the studio or outdoors, whichever suits you and the portrait.

If you want something truly unique, we can design the set, the outfit, the hair and the makeup. Andrea's skills include tailoring and design, painting, crafting, building, and hat and head dress design, so the vision on the moodboard can become real.

And if life gets in the way, we always book two dates, so one rescheduling is free of charge. A retainer is all it takes to hold your spot.

What changes for you

You arrive knowing what you will wear, how you will look and what the finished portrait is meant to feel like. That calm shows in the photos.

Whether you are 1 or 100, booking for yourself, your family or your pet, and whether you are in Kamloops, Vernon, Armstrong, Chase or right here in Falkland, you get a clean, Vanity Fair-inspired portrait that is about you and nothing else. The one you keep, not the one you delete.
