Vanity Fair style portraits ·

When the background steals every photo you are in

You finally find a photo of yourself you like, and then you notice the laundry basket, the parked truck and the stranger behind you. A portrait should be about you, not everything around you. Here is how a less-is-more session keeps the focus where it belongs.

Picture scrolling back through a year of photos to find one good picture of yourself. There is the lake trip, where you are a dot against the water. There is the kitchen shot, framed by dishes and a fridge covered in magnets. There is the family photo in the park, with a bright sign growing out of your head.

You are in all of them. You are not the subject of any of them.

What a busy frame costs you

When everything in the picture competes for attention, your face, your expression and the people you love become one more detail. The photo records where you were, not who you were.

That matters most for the pictures meant to last: a portrait of your mother in her golden years, your one-year-old at the age that disappears fastest, or the dog who has been part of the family for a decade. If the clutter wins, the person, or pet, is the thing you strain to see.

How we keep the focus on you

Andrea is a published portrait photographer whose style is simple: less is more. Her Vanity Fair-inspired portraits focus on you, without distracting elements. Here is how that works.

First, a consultation. Andrea prepares a moodboard with you so you can see the look before the day, and every detail you discuss is emailed to you afterward.

Next, the setting. Sessions can be in the studio or outdoors. Either way, the aim is the same: a clean frame that lets you stand out instead of blending in.

If you want something more unusual, we can design the set, outfit, hair and makeup for a unique session. Andrea's skills include tailoring and design, painting, crafting, building, and hat and head dress design, so a backdrop or costume can be made to support you rather than crowd you.

Then the session itself. Andrea started in photography as a model, and her camera has been busy for the last 20 years. She photographs anyone from one year old through the golden years, and pets too, all with that same uncluttered approach.

What changes for you

You get portraits where the first thing anyone sees is you: your eyes, your expression, the look on your child's face, the tilt of your dog's head. Nothing to crop out, nothing to apologize for.

Booking needs only a retainer, and we always book two dates, so one rescheduling is free of charge. We are in Falkland and serve Kamloops, Vernon, Armstrong, Chase and the surrounding areas. Start with a conversation about the portrait you have been missing.
